The previous problems with my blogging software have now finally been fixed, including some new features now available, after a complete upgrade to my iMac system. I wasn’t even able to post a message about this, except in the RSS feed, which is also working normally again. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming... :-)

Posted by Paul Scott Anderson on June 29, 2008 at 9:38 pm

back to blog

Updates to the RSS feed are temporarily on hold for a few days as I fix a glitch between my RSS program and the system software. Will be back asap; updates will still be posted as usual to the blog itself in the meantime...

Posted by Paul Scott Anderson on April 27, 2008 at 3:26 pm

back to blog

A nice-looking set of nested crescents in canola (oil-seed rape), although the initial ground report indicates a lot of damage to the plants.

I’ve added an e-mail version of the rss feed, for those who prefer to subscribe to updates by e-mail. This is the same rss feed, just redirected automatically by Feedburner to your e-mail address instead of an rss reader. Go to this link to subscribe (also in the right hand column on the main page of the blog). You will receive a verification e-mail, which you need to reply to before you can receive any updates. When there are new posts, an e-mail will be sent out automatically by Feedburner for that day, between 7:00 - 9:00 pm.

Posted by Paul Scott Anderson on April 7, 2008 at 9:45 pm

back to blog

There is another older (but previously unknown) report of crop circles on a farm near Redvers, Saskatchewan in 1950, in connection with a sighting of a “round object with lights on its underside” flying low over the fields. The multiple circles, about 10 feet diameter each, were clearly defined and swirled in the oat field. The story ran in the Winnipeg Sun newspaper on March 24.

Andreas Muller, a German researcher with a well-known interest in early (pre-1980s) crop circle accounts, has already interviewed the witness, 82-year old Ernest Buisse.

This is yet further evidence that, as with similar early accounts in the CCCRN archives as well as other countries, simpler formations such as circles and rings, have been reported for decades or even centuries, long before they became such a “publicly known” phenomenon in the 1980s / 1990s and before organized hoaxers started making some of the more complex formations.

It is interesting to note that while an “aerial craft” was reported, the circles themselves apparently fit the description of “classic” flattened and swirled circles better than other circular “landing trace” cases (usually burned or missing vegetation or soil imprints) which have often been reported in association with reported “UFO landings” and it is important to make that distinction. Some ufologists have tried to claim that all such early “crop circle” formations were just landing traces, but to anyone who has looked into the history of these kinds of early crop circles, it is clear that these are different and distinct kinds of phenomena. Does the reported craft sighting in this case imply a connection between the two, however? Possibly, but even after several decades of research now, there are still too many unanswered questions.

Posted by Paul Scott Anderson on March 30, 2008 at 8:47 pm

back to blog

Addendum: an update to the previous post (February 24), I’ve also now updated the feed itself, as there was a problem with the summary text being cut too short; the summary text now matches that on the blog itself, and includes the same ‘read more’ link and thumbnail image, as well as FeedFlare options (email this, blog this, etc.).

The RSS feed has been updated. Please note the shorter new url which should now be used in your RSS readers. The RSS link in the right-hand column will now take you to an improved feed page on FeedBurner which provides various additional subscription options for both regular readers / aggregators and web-based readers as well as its own current listing of recent posts (much nicer than raw xml!). You can also still manually copy the url directly into whatever reader you may be using, of course. The feed can also now be imbedded into other web sites using SpringWidgets.

Here also is a good listing of available RSS readers for PC, Mac and many other platforms:

http://allrss.com/rssreaders.html

Posted by Paul Scott Anderson on March 1, 2008 at 5:14 pm

back to blog

web site update

I've been updating the web site again, with a blog-style format. Current news and update posts are now blogged on the front page as abbreviated excerpts, with permalinks to the individual pages with full text / images. Main page links, features and external links are now listed in the right-hand column. The logo header and photo galleries have also been updated and the formation archives pages are still being re-formatted, with condensed listings linking to additional info, diagrams and slide-show gallery images. There will also now be a separate page for maps and statistics. Comments for posts and the search tool are not yet available due to a conflict between the current server hosting the web site and the .Mac software used for publishing; this should be resolved in the near future. The format is also now synchronized with my other planetary exploration blog, The Meridiani Journal.

I've decided to discontinue the e-mail updates after this one, due to personal time constraints and too many bounces occurring from outdated e-mail addresses. I hope this is understandable and thank everyone who has received them over the years.

However, updates can be subscribed to via the free RSS news feed. This is a more current, reliable and faster method for receiving updates automatically as soon as they are posted to the web site, and many free RSS readers (required to read the updates) are available for both Windows and Mac computers. Updates can also be read directly on the web site itself, of course.

Posted by Paul Scott Anderson on February 17, 2008 at 6:18 pm

back to blog
